Man sentenced to death for killing child after rape

A court in Dhaka sentenced a man to death for killing a six-year-old child after raping her in Dakshinkhan area of the capital in 2011.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 Judge Begum Samsunnahar handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The convict is Rayhan Ahmed Masud. The court also fined him Tk 2 lakh. Besides, the court awarded life imprisonment under another section of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to the prosecution, Rayhan raped the child at a residential hotel in Dakshinkhan area after abducting her from the house in 2011. After that, he strangled her to death there.

A case was filed by the victim's brother with Dakshinkhan Police Station on April 12, 2011, accusing Rayhan.

Police later submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court in 2012.
