Hefazat-e-Islam Secretary General Nur Hossain Kasemi died at a city hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Kasemi breathed his last at the United Hospital around 1:15pm.
Kasemi's press secretary Mufti Munir Ahmed informed media that the Islamist leader was admitted to the hospital on December 1 with cold related complications and breathing problem.
But, he tested negative for coronavirus, he added.
Kasemi was made the party's Secretary General in the new committee formed on November 15 following the death of its top leader Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.
Meanwhile, BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have condoled the death of Kasemi.
