A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Shahadat Hossain, news editor of Bangla daily Sangram, to jail in a sedition case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed the order after rejecting his bail prayer in the case.
Earlier, Shahadat surrendered before the court seeking bail.
On October 22, Ruhul Amin Gazi, the daily's chief reporter and president of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), was sent to jail by a court in the same case.
On December 13, 2019, freedom-fighter commander Mohammad Afzal Hossain filed a case under the Digital Security Act against eight people including the daily's editor Abul Asad and chief reporter Ruhul Amin Gazi.
The case filed was over a report run by the Dainik Sangram on December 12, 2019, headlined "Today is the sixth martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Abdul Quader Molla."
Quader Molla, former assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, was hanged at the old Dhaka Central Jail on December 12, 2013 in a case over committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
