Ten people have been arrested in connection with the killing of assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon at a private hospital in Dhaka.

Deputy police commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matter at a press briefing held on Tuesday noon.
After scrutinising CCTV camera footage of Mind Aid Hospital where the ASP had been beaten to death, police think it was a clear 'murder', he said.

"Police made the arrests after identifying them from the CCTV footage of the hospital and will seek 10-day remand for the each for interrogation. Action will be taken against the authority, management of the Mind Aid Hospital and the persons involved in incident," Harun-or-Rashid added.

Anisul Karim Shipon worked as the assistant commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police's traffic department. He came his Gazipur home on Monday morning.

His elder brother Rezaul Karim said after coming home, they taken Anisul to Mind Aid Hospital in Dhaka's Adabor area for treatment as he had been suffering from mental illness. Some employees of the hospital took him to the first floor the hospital. Few minutes later, they informed him that Anisul Karim became senseless. Then, he was rushed to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases where the on-duty doctors declared Anisul dead.

Police collected footage from CCTV camera of the Mind Aid where they found that some people dragging Anisul and beating him up.

Rezaul Karim alleged that his brother was killed by the staff of the Mind Aid Hospital.

The victim's father Faizuddin Ahmed lodged a murder case with Adabor Police Station early today accusing some 15 people.
