Haji Salim's son Erfan taken into custody

Mohammad Erfan Salim, son of lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim, has been taken to police custody in a case filed for assaulting a navy official.
Erfan, councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) ward no 30, was picked up by the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Haji Salim's residence 'Madina Tower' in old Dhaka's Lalbagh area on Monday noon, a RAB source confirmed.
Following the case filed by the victim navy official, police arrested the MP's car driver Mizanur Rahman, an accused in the case.
Navy officer Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station early hours accusing four people, including Mohammad Erfan Salim.
The other two accused are: Erfan's bodyguard Mohammad Jahid and protocol officer of Haji Salim's Madina group AB Siddiq Dipu.
On Sunday night, Dhaka-7 MP Haji Salim's son and three others beat up Wasif getting down from their car in capital's Dhanmondi area.
The navy officer stood before the car giving his identity as it hit his bike before.
A video footage of the incident was circulated on social media where it was found that the navy official's teeth was broke down during the attack.
The victim filed a general diary with Dhanmondi Police Station at night.
In the GD, Wasif alleged that he and his wife were riding on the motorcycle. Suddenly, a government car holding a nameplate 'Lawmaker' hit his motorbike near Kalabagan signal.
He stood before the car after parking his motorbike on the road. The four people then used abbusive words and started beating Wasif. They also assaulted his wife and threatened to kill Wasif and his wife, he alleged.
Later, the four left the scene leaving the car behind as people started to gather around.
During the incident the member of the parliament was not present.
