Murder case against Teknaf OC Pradeep, IC Liakat filed |

A murder case has been filed with the Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-3 in connection with the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan. The murder case was filed on Wednesday accusing nine persons including Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das and Teknaf's Baharchhara Police Outpost's in-charge Liakat Ali. Slain Major (Retd) Sinha's sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdousi filed the case at about 11:30am on Wednesday. Taking the case into cognizance, Cox's Bazar's Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah directed the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit a report within the seven working days. Besides, the court directed the Teknaf Police Station to inform the court within seven working days whether the case was registered as an ezahar. After the filing of the case, complainant Sharmin Shahriar Ferdousi and her lawyer Advocate Mohammad Mostofa talked to the waiting newsmen outside the court. The complainant expressed her satisfaction over the directives of the court. On the other hand, decision has been taken to withdraw Teknaf Police Station OC Pradip Kumar Das due to the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha in Teknaf police firing, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday. It may be mentioned that Major (Retd) Sinha was killed in police firing in front of Baharchhara Police Outpost at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district on July 31 last. Sinha's family members termed the incident as "cold-blooded murder," while police claimed that they opened fire in "self-defence." A four-member committee headed by Chattogram additional divisional commissioner Mizanur Rahman has been investigating the incident. They have been asked to submit report withing seven working days.
