Swedish Crown Princess to visit Khulna tomorrow

KHULNA, Mar 18: Swedish Crown Princess Victoria will visit Koyra Upazila near the Sundarban tomorrow as a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The district administration of Khulna has made extensive preparations to ensure tidying up the places of her visit, cleanliness of roads, safety and security during her visit to Koyra, Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khandkar Yasir Arefin confirmed The Daily Observer, adding that Koyra has already got a festive look and neat and clean as well.

The Crown Princess, an ambassador of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will visit Noyani Village of Moheswaripur Union of Koyra Upazila tomorrow, he said.

Regarding the security, Khandkar Yasir Arefin told the Observer that adequate members of law-enforcement agencies including Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), BGB, Army, Navy, Air force, Coast Guard and DB police have already been deployed to ensure the security of the princess.

During her visit, the Crown Princess will talk to the Noyani villagers who are the beneficiaries of the rain-harvesting system set up on the ground of Noyani Jaggo Temple in Maheshwaripur Union of Koyra.

Besides, she will also visit Moharajpur Union Digital Centre, Koyra Upzila Post Office, and Koyra Telephone exchange office, said the DC.

Earlier, a UNDP survey revealed that 63 per cent population in five coastal upazilas- Dacope, Koyra, Paikgacha of Khulna and Assasuni and Shyamnagar of Satkhira are facing difficulties in consuming drinking water.

To mitigate the drinking water crisis, 13,308 water plants with a 2,000-litre capacity each were installed in five upazilas of Khulna and Satkhira under the Gender-responsive Coastal Adaptation (GCA) Project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.
