The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have handed down disciplinary actions to least 67 students for different terms for their involvement in anti-disciplinary activities, tarnishing the universitys image, and engaging in examination malpractices.

Following the recommendations of Disciplinary Board of the university, the decisions were taken at a Syndicate meeting held on February 3 at the universitys Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal presided over the meeting.

Besides, the Syndicate, the highest policy-making forum of the university, sacked Md Shamim Hossain, a token man of the Proctor Office, for extorting a hefty amount of money from over 300 illegally stalled makeshift shops on the campus. The Daily Observer published a series of reports since February 26 last year on the issue.

However, out of 67 students, seven were expelled temporarily for breaching disciplinary and tarnishing the university image and 60 for copying in examinations.

In the case of the seven students, letters will be issued and sent to concerned police stations, students local guardians and their permanent addresses.

However, the students will not be allowed to stay at the residential halls until the suspension on them are not withdrawn.
