Coal mining in Barapukuria resumes 15 days before schedule

PARBATIPUR, DINAJPUR, Feb 17: The coal mining from Barapukuria Coal Mine located in Parbatipur Upazila of the district has resumed 15 days before the scheduled time.
On Thursday evening, experimental coal extraction was started from the 1209 phase of the mine.
It was reported that 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes per day will initially be extracted from the new phase 1209. If everything goes well, then it will be mined at the rate of 3,000 to 3,500 tonnes of coal per day, said the authorities.
The authorities also said that it will be possible to extract coal from this phase which started with a target of 3.60 lakh tons till next July.
Coal-based Barapukuria Thermal Power plant can be operated continuously till next July with this extracted coal.
Confirming the matter of coal mining, Barapukuria Coal Mine Managing Director Engineer Saiful Islam said that mining will continue if everything is fine.
Earlier, the authority stopped the mining coal extraction activities on December 29 when the stock of face No-1412 was exhausted.
