Tax commissioner sent to jail

Appellate Joint tax commissioner M Harunur Rashid Bhuiyan, absconding in a case filed by the ACC, has been sent to jail upon his surrender before a court in Dhaka.

Special Judge Jalaluddin Ahmed passed the order on Sunday rejecting Bhuiyan’s bail petition.

The same court in 2014 sentenced Bhuiyan to six years’ imprisonment under separate sections in a case for concealing information in his wealth statement and amassing illegal wealth of  over Tk 1.11 crore.

Since the judgement, he was absconding.

The Anti Corruption Commission filed the on October 29,2007 with Dhanmondi thana  against Bhuiyan.
