The 72nd solo art exhibition of internationally reputed artist Kalidas Karmakar was inaugurated on January 3, at the Nalinikanta Bhattasali Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum. The twenty two-day long exhibition has been titled "Alluvial Soul-Soil-Symbol". The exhibition will run till January 24 regularly from 9.30am to 5.30pm save Fridays and Thursdays. On Fridays the exhibition will run from 2.30 to 7.30 pm while it will remain closed on Thursdays.
Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister for Cultural Affairs, inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman and Farooq Sobhan, President, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute were present to grace the occasion as special guests.
One of the most internationally acclaimed artists of Bangladesh, Kalidas Karmakar was born on January 10 in the year 1946. In August 1976 he made his mark as an artist with a difference in his first ever-major solo exhibition held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Gallery. He has successfully distinguished himself as an experimentalist. He is an accomplished graphic artist, especially in etching and mixed media technique. Known to be skilled in unorthodox materials Kalidas is also recognised for his peculiar philosophy held towards art. He specialises in the French multi-colored etching (Viscosity process) and has worked with world famous artist S.W. Hayter who invented the Viscosity technique in 1930 at Atelier-17 Paris. He received Sultan Padak in 2015. He travels consistently from Poland to Paris, from Brazil to Beijing, from Turkey to Tokyo, to gather new vibe and passion for his newer projects on his return to his homeland.
