Daudkandi to get modernised river-port: Shipping Minister

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Sunday gave an announcement to establish a modernized river port at Daudkandi under Comilla district. To establish the port, the government has started dredging the rivers of the area under its capital project.
The announcement was given while the Minister inaugurating the dredging works of the waterway of Daudkandi-Homna-Krishnapur channel of the Gomati, Meghna and Titas rivers.
The Minister along with local MP Subid Ali Bhuiyan inaugurated the work at the Daudkandi Bridge point of the Gomati River on Sunday evening.
Under the capital dredging project of the Ministry, the authority will dredge around 50 kilometer waterways of the rivers expensing around Tk 45 crore.
The dredging will be completed by June 2019 with removing a total of 19 lakh cubic centimeter (ccm) of sands from the channel.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) is implementing the project by Bangladesh Navy. Center for Environmental and Geographic Information System (CEGIS) designed and supervising the entire dredging works, according to the authority.
