Historical importance of Jessore district

Jessore district is located in the south- western borderline of Bangladesh and the first district of joint Bengal and now the 13th largest district in Bangladesh. Once, the region was a deep forestry area. In the last few decades of 17Th century and up to mid of 18th century, Jessore was an independent state. The ancient name of the region was "Khalifatabad." During the beginning of British East India Company Period, Jessore district was formed in 1786. On the time of partition of India in 1947, Jessore was also partially divided. The entire district excepting Boangaon and Gaighata police stations were included in East Pakistan.
After the liberation of Bangladesh, as the part of administrative decentralization; Jessore district was reformed in 1984. As a result four subdivisions named Narail, Magura, Jhenaidah and Sadar started their journey as separate districts.
Jessore District is bordered by Magura and Jhenaidah districts to the north, Khulna and Satkhira districts to the south, Narail and a part of Khulna district to the east, West Bengal (Indian State) to the west. The area of Jessore is 2606.94 Sq Km. It is under Khulna Division. During the liberation war, Jessore was under Sector Number 08.  Kapothakkha, Vhoyrab, Chitra, Horihor, Betraboti, Dandra, Kodla, and Isamoti are the important rivers.

Famous tourist places in Jessore District
Dhopakhola: Dhopakhola village is situated in the Jessore Sadar Upozilla and it positions with an honored of its valiant descendant of freedom war. A mass momentous in Dhopakhola approximately thirty people surrendered their survives aimed at the motherland. The aforementioned has an archive for the sacrifices entitled 'Shaheed Smrity Pathagar' and alternative one known as 'Dhopakhola Cattra Maytri Pathagar' recognized through the young, spirited and supreme body fluid, Md Momin Uddin, an innovator of them is an undergraduate of Business Studies Faculty from Dhaka University.
Balia Vakutia: Village named Balia Vakutia is famed for its minor intertwining production (materialize), wherever Shari, Lounge, Gamcha and many more. Dresses are manufactured.
Rampur: Rampur village has turned out to be a tourist charm intended for its island-like appearance bordered by twofold rivers which are named Jhapa Bayor as well as Khajura Bayor. The Kopotakkho River tides over the place.
Abhaynagar Upazila: There a small village named Dhoolgaam once had a wonderful multifaceted of 17 Hindu sanctuaries but merely single remains currently. Most of the sanctuaries were damaged through the Bhairab River.
Sagardari: In Sagardari village of Jessore, the house of Michael Madhusudan Dutta is situated. Now it's a museum. Visitors can visit here and can learn more about the great Bangladeshi poet.
Vaatnogor: In Vaatnogor, relics of eleven sanctuaries multifaceted, enthusiastic to Lord shiva's period. It keeps the glorious past of Bangla.
Shahi mosque: it is situated in Hamidpur village which is an illustration of Muslim Sultani era. Visitors can come here and also can say their prayers.
Imam Bara: it is an ancient building which was made by Hazi Muhammad Mohsin and it is situated beside the Dhaka-Khulna Highway.
Benapole Border Gate: Benapole is a boundary city in Bangladesh, the furthermost frequently used border when roaming in the middle of Kolkata in addition to Dhaka. The Indian on the side is known as Haridaspur.
Mallinath : A terracotta inscription bearing the spitting image of Mallinath, a woman tirthankar (saint) of the Jain religious conviction, was bring into being at the Embankment of Dam Dam Peer in Manirampur Upazila which is 1800 years old.
Moreover, Graveyard of Gazi Kalu Champaboti, Tetulia Mosque, Graveyard of Bulu Dewan, Parental House of Dhiraj Vattyacharja, Chachra Royal Palace and Shib Mondir, Jessore Airport, Varat Vayner Dewary, Jessore Public Library, Balia Vakutia Village (Famous for its small Weaving industry), Baliadanga Temple, Shrine of Garib Shah and Jessore Circuit House are the famous tourist places of the district.
