Manikganj flood situation worsens

Manikganj: The flood situation in the district worsened further following the rise of water level in the Jamuna River.

The river on Wednesday morning was flowing 59cm above its danger mark at Arichaghat point, submerging fresh areas including crop lands.

Manikganj Water Development Board assistant engineer Md Abdul Hamid Miah said, the Jamuna is continuing to rise at Aricha point for last few days.

Meanwhile, waters in the rivers Ichhamoti, Kaliganga and Dhaleshwari are also rising.

People in freshly flooded area did not get any government relief last week, said chairmen of respective unions.

District DAE sources said standing crops including boro and aman paddy, seed-beds and vegetables on a vast land went under flood water.

But, the extent of damage could not the estimated yet.
