30,000 females make embroidery in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, July 4: Around 30 thousand female embroiders here make clothes with different designs round the year.
In this connection, they are making panjabi, three-piece, sari, fatua, baby dress and other clothes. These clothes with labels of different famous brands are displayed in the showrooms of capital Dhaka. With these designs on the clothes, they are actually weaving their dreams.
For the last several years, some embroidery organisations have grown up across Manikganj. Of these organisations, Ayesha-Abed Foundation of Brac, Monami, Nakshi, Yusuf-Ibrahim Handicraft, Shankhaneel, Mycraft, and Janani Craft and Fashion are remarkable.
Around 30 female embroiders are working under these organisations who make different clothes with attractive designs round the year. But their activities and the demand of their clothes increase during different festivals including Eid.
These embroiders are found busy in making the clothes at their homes. An embroider Salma Begum of Shankhaneel Fashion in Manikganj Sadar upazila said, "Though we work round the year, our activities increase before Eid."
Another embroider Nadia of the same organisation said, "We do not realise the significance of the clothes which we make. But, when the customers buy the clothes from different showrooms and wear those, we then realise the significance of the clothes."
Director of Shankhaneel Fashion Rajani Khan Rumpa said, "We here make different clothes by rural women. We send these to 'Deshal' and 'Methopath'."
Director of Mycraft Fashion Anisur Rahman said, "We send our products to different showrooms in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Bogra and other districts. Local showrooms also sell our products."
Officer of Brac's Ayesha-Abed Foundation in Manikganj Ahsraf Hossen said, "We make the clothes according to customers' demand. Due to good quality of the products, these have much demand. The demand increases during Eid. In the last Eid, around 80 thousand clothes were sent to 'Arong' only."
