Poverty barrier to higher edn for Meherpur girl

MEHERPUR, May 18: Sharmin Sultana Tonny, daughter of a day-labourer Giasuddin of Jorpukuria village under Gangni upazila of the district, obtained GPA-5 in SSC examination under the Jessore Education Board this year.  
Her dream is to be a doctor and so she wants to continue her studies with indomitable will force.
As the poverty is the main barrier to attain her goal, she sought help of the philanthropists of the society to fulfil her dream. It is not possible for her parents to continue her studies due to poverty.
Tonny's mother Bilkis Khatun said, her husband is a day-labourer and it is hardly possible to run the livelihood with his daily earnings. He is forced to render other works side by side to bear the educational expenses of her two sons and one daughter.
She said in a chocked voice that there are many mothers who used to feed their children better foods by their own hand before sending them to education centre but she could not think that for her children.
Tonny's father Giasuddin said, he has not a single piece of land and lives in a house on other's land. He suffers from mental agony as he has no savings and it would not be possible for him to continue the studies of his daughter, he lamented.
Hasan Al Nurani, headmaster of Jorpukuria Secondary School said, the institution is happy for Tonny's result and the school authority will extend all possible help to her.
