
CHUADANGA, Mar 21; Alamdanga Baddhabhumi (killing field) bears the testimony of brutal-killing of Pakistani occupation forces during Liberation War in 1971.
The killing field is situated at Alamdanga Lal Bridge area near the railway station in Alamdanga upazila where at least 1000 innocent people including 22 local freedom fighters were killed by Pakistani army.
The Pakistan army between August 12, and November 15, 1971 invaded different villages of the upazila and a team of the occupation forces took shelter at Lal Bridge area.
Razakars named Ahamed Ali Bukra, Samsul Khandaker used to inform the 'Pakistani Hanadar Bahini' about the position of freedom fighters.
The Pakistani forces started their brutal killing mission and the invaded the freedom loving fighters and innocent passengers of different trains on August 12, 1971. When a train reached at Alamdanga Rail way station, the Pakistani army and their collaborators went there and got the passengers down from the train and tortured them in different ways and killed them brutally. And the killing mission of Pakistan army continued till November 15, 1971.
Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Sultan Joarder said 22 freedom fighters and at least 1000 innocent unknown people were killed ruthlessly during the time. Afterward, their bodies were dumped there.
Local people, later, detected the place as mass-grave. Since then this place is known as Alamdanga Baddhabhumi, he added.
The martyred freedom fighters were identified as Tagor, Asu Mia, Nannu, Kiamuddin, Hasan Jaman , Abu Taleb , Abdul Goni, Akbor Hossain, Faleher, Habibur Rahman, Nazrul Islam, Murad Hossain , Talat Mahamud and Rawson Alam .
After liberation war, the place remained neglected for a long time. Later, Local Government and Engineering Department took steps and made a commemorative plaque here at the cost of taka 2.7crore.
Whip of Jatiya Sangsad and Valiant Freedom Fighter Solaiman Haque Joarder Selul inaugurated the complex on March 1, 2012.
Every day many people from different parts of the district come to visit the monument and paid homage to the martyrs, especially on the occasion of 12 August, 26 March and 16 December.
Commander of district unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Abu Hossain called upon the government to take adequate measures in honour of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.
