TC Sports Club of the Maldives lifted the trophy of the second edition of eight-team Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Tournament beating Pocheon Citizen FC of South Korea in the final on Friday by 4-2 goals in the penalty shootout after the regular time saw a 2-2 draw.
The heart-throbbing final match was played at the MA Aziz Stadium in the port city Chittagong.
In the regular time, TC Sports Club took the lead with their striker Maneed succeed to hit the net in the 18th minute. But, the Maldives boys could hold the dominance till the 35th minute of the match as Pocheon Citizen's Deuk levelled the margin then.
The South Korean club was also able to double the lead before the short whistle as their Jang Yong fired the net in the 44th minute of the match.
But, TC Sports' Azzam levelled the margin in the 83rd minute and none were able to break the parity in the stipulated time.
The extra time also was barren after which led the match to penalty shootout.
In the Penalty shootout, the Malvides' TC Sports Club succeeded to prove their worth to clinch the title beating Pocheon boys by 4-2 goals.
Earlier on Thursday, TC Sports Club Nizam Mohamed said in the pre-match briefing session that the match would be tough enough for them as Pocheon Citizen FC, according to him, were the top challengers of the tournament. Yet the coach jokingly said that their opponents should be feeling the same way as TC had defeated defending BPL champions.
It seemed that coach Nizam was true about the opponents who surely fought them hard till the long whistle although it were Nizam and his boys who were smiling in the end.
In 2015, host Chittagong Abahani clinched the first title of the tournament beating East Bengal FC of India in the final. But, the holders failed to play the final this time as they were eliminated from the semi-final.
