A video allegedly showing Mofazzal Hossain Sarker Khasru, organising secretary of Sarishabari Municipality BNP in Jamalpur, using yaba has gone viral on social media, sparking criticism and discussion among local residents and political circles.
The 41-second video was first posted on Facebook by an account named Abdul Bached Sihab around 8:00pm on Sunday (November 8) before spreading across other social media platforms.
The video appears to show a man lighting yaba and inhaling smoke. At one point, he seems to offer the substance to another person sitting in front of him.
However, the authenticity of the video could not be independently verified.
Speaking to the media, Khasru denied the allegation, claiming that the video had been created using artificial intelligence (AI) and circulated by his political rivals.
“I am involved in politics and have opponents. They may have done this for some reason. I am a simple person and do not understand these things,” he said.
Sarishabari Municipality BNP General Secretary Johurul Islam Pintu said he had seen the video on Facebook but could not comment without verification.
He added that the party had a firm policy of taking a zero-tolerance approach to drugs.
Sarishabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Hossain said he had not received any information about the incident.
