EC sets deadline for voter list claims, corrections

The Election Commission (EC) has set November 20 as the deadline for submitting claims, objections and correction applications against the draft voter list ahead of the upcoming union parishad elections.

Officials of the EC's Election Management Division disclosed the schedule on Sunday (November 8).

According to the schedule, applications seeking corrections will be settled by November 23, while decisions on claims, objections and correction requests will be incorporated into the list by November 24. The updated final voter list will be published on November 25.

The draft list, prepared on November 5, includes people born on or before October 31, 2008, who were registered in the EC database by October 31, 2026.

The commission has appointed 150 officials as correction authorities across 64 districts and cantonment areas to process applications.

The country's total voter population currently stands at 12 crore 87 lakh 77 thousand 643, according to the EC.

The commission is also preparing to hold the first phase of union parishad elections on January 21, with around 1,000 union parishads expected to participate. The polls are planned in five phases.
