The US Congress is preparing a bipartisan investigation into Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang following media reports alleging he maintained a personal relationship with an executive linked to Chinese intelligence, raising national security concerns over sensitive artificial intelligence technology.
According to high-level classified memoranda prepared by US officials earlier this year, intelligence reports suggest Huang engaged in a personal relationship with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, a customer entity of Nvidia.
The classified memorandum was delivered to senior US officials in May prior to President Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Reports published by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times between late October and early November highlighted concerns among US, Singaporean, and Taiwanese intelligence agencies that Alice Huang operated as an agent for China's top intelligence service aimed at influencing US chip export policies.
Republican chairmen of the House Select Committee on China, Foreign Affairs Committee, and Intelligence Committee have requested Huang to provide a closed-door briefing by November 11 regarding his interactions and the safeguards implemented by Nvidia to protect sensitive data.
Simultaneously, Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced a full congressional inquiry into the matter, describing it as an issue involving national security, intelligence threats, and AI technology leadership.
Nvidia and Jensen Huang have strongly rejected the allegations, maintaining that interactions with Alice Huang were strictly professional and business-related. The company stated that Huang meets thousands of clients and executives annually as part of routine business operations and affirmed that no sensitive information was compromised.
The Chinese government has also dismissed the espionage allegations, describing them as fabricated political propaganda. Representatives for Alice Huang could not immediately be reached for comment.
Megaspeed, which spun off from a Chinese gaming company in 2023, has been under scrutiny alongside other Southeast Asian entities suspected by US authorities of facilitating illicit chip transfers to China. Nvidia previously conducted an internal review regarding Megaspeed and reported finding no evidence of wrongdoing.
