Ziaur Rahman pioneered democracy: IAU VC

Islamic Arabic University (IAU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan has said Ziaur Rahman initiated Bangladesh's journey towards democracy.

He made the remarks at a discussion and prayer meeting at the university auditorium on Saturday (November 7), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The VC described Ziaur Rahman as both a statesman and a philosopher, saying he had a clear vision for the country's development.

He urged everyone to rise above personal and political differences and work together for national unity, patriotism and development.

He also called on teachers, officials and employees to maintain discipline, mutual respect and cooperation to improve the university's academic standards and reputation.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Muhammad Shahidul Islam chaired the programme, attended by other university officials.
