November 8 (Sunday) will not be a general public holiday in Bangladesh, and government offices, banks, insurance companies and educational institutions will remain open as usual.
However, the day has been listed as an optional holiday for Hindu employees on the occasion of Shyama Puja, according to the 2026 government holiday calendar approved by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Hindu government employees may avail themselves of the optional holiday with approval from their respective authorities.
Shyama Puja, also known as Kali Puja, will be celebrated on Sunday, November 8, marking the new moon night of the Bengali month of Kartik.
Temples across the country, including Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ramna Kali Mandir and Ramakrishna Mission in Dhaka, are scheduled to hold religious programmes to mark the occasion.
