Four journalist organisations on Friday (November 6) have condemned allegations that actress Pori Moni verbally abused and threatened a multimedia reporter and that her security guards assaulted journalists at a court premises.
The organisations are the Multimedia Reporters Association (MRA), Multimedia Reporters Unity (MRU), Digital Reporters Forum (DRF) and Youth Journal. They issued separate statements protesting the incident involving MRA member journalist Robiul Hossain Raju.
The MRA said video footage showed Pori Moni hurling abusive remarks and threats at Raju, while her bodyguards allegedly attacked several journalists, leaving some injured. Its president, Fakhrul Islam, said such conduct threatened journalists' professional dignity and press freedom.
The DRF also condemned the alleged obstruction and harassment of journalists, expressing concern over reports that ordinary court visitors were injured. It called for an impartial investigation into the allegations against the actress and her security personnel, as well as the role of law enforcement officers present at the scene.
The MRU demanded an investigation, proper medical treatment and security for injured journalists, and legal action against those involved. Youth Journal also called for an impartial inquiry, stressing that allegations against a journalist should be verified before any public humiliation or accusation.
