President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for building a just Bangladesh by drawing inspiration from the spirit of November 7, National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

He made the call in a message issued on Friday (November 6) marking the occasion.

The President extended his heartfelt greetings to all citizens of the country on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day. He also paid deep tribute to all the brave members of the armed forces and patriotic citizens who took part in the historic revolution led by soldiers and the people on November 7, 1975.

Describing November 7 as an unforgettable day in the nation's history, the President said it marked a crucial turning point in the country's history. At a difficult time marked by subservient misrule, corruption, anarchy and hegemonic conspiracies, the country regained its independence and sovereignty through a united uprising by soldiers and the people, he said.

He added that all conspiracies were thwarted and the country's Proclaimer of Independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, was freed from captivity. With the overwhelming support of the people, he was entrusted with the great responsibility of governing the country and overcoming the national crisis. The President described his role during that critical period as that of a saviour.

The President further said, the solidarity between soldiers and the people represented an unprecedented awakening inspired by the spirit of independence.

He said the country's armed forces have always demonstrated unity and solidarity in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and people's rights.

According to the President, the same spirit was revived during the mass uprising of 2024. Through the strong unity of people from all walks of life, including students, women, men and members of the armed forces, the 16-year-long fascist rule came to an end. The country was once again saved from the danger of becoming a subservient state, he added.

Highlighting the immense significance of the revolution and solidarity in the nation's history, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that, continuing this legacy, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman restored multiparty democracy, the rule of law, freedom of speech and freedom of the press in the country.

He also said Ziaur Rahman worked towards economic emancipation and social peace, freed the country from a subservient foreign policy and led the nation towards development, progress and prosperity on the basis of Bangladeshi nationalism. He united the nation and established good governance at all levels, the President added.

The President said, national independence and sovereignty have repeatedly faced conspiracies, democracy has been undermined, and fascist misrule has taken hold of the country.

Through collective efforts, the country has once again embarked on the path to democracy under the leadership of an elected government, he said.

To sustain this progress, it is essential to further strengthen democratic institutions and all other state institutions, the President added.

He stressed that mutual respect, dialogue and the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) must remain central to resolving national problems.

The state will be governed in the interest of the country and its people, guided by the philosophy of “Bangladesh First” to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of November 7, he said.

He added that national interests, equality, justice and democratic practices would receive the highest priority.

The President also wished overall success for all programmes marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
