Students of the Government College of Applied Human Science in the capital blocked both sides of the Azimpur road on Friday demanding the resignation of their principal.
The demonstration began around 10:00 AM on Friday (6 November), halting traffic movement in the area. Protesting students alleged that police launched a baton charge on unarmed students on Thursday night to rescue the besieged principal, Dr Meherunnesa, leaving several students injured and hospitalized.
Students had kept Dr Meherunnesa confined to her office since Thursday morning over allegations of irregularities, high-handedness, threats of cancelling residential hall seats, and imposing a 12,600 Taka fine for auditorium electricity bills. Police subsequently escorted the principal out of the campus late at night.
