Bangladesh is continuing diplomatic efforts to resolve the longstanding visa crisis affecting Bangladeshi nationals living in the United Arab Emirates, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque has said.

He said the issue had already been raised through diplomatic channels via the Ministry of Home Affairs, while further efforts were underway to resolve the matter through discussions with the UAE government at the ministerial level.

The minister made these remarks while addressing the ‘NRB CIP Awards 2026’ virtually on Tuesday November 3 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dubai.

“ We are aware of the visa situation facing Bangladeshis in the UAE. The matter has already been taken up through diplomatic channels via the Ministry of Home Affairs. We are also continuing our efforts. We will hold discussions with the UAE government at the ministerial level to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” Minister Ariful Haque said.

Mohammad Abu Sufian, Member of Parliament for Chattogram-9 , attended the event as a special guest.

In his speech, Abu Sufian said that a democratic government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman had assumed responsibility for running the country. He described the present administration as a government of the people and expatriates, committed to national development and improving the living standards of citizens.

“We want to establish dignity and respect not only for CIP award recipients but for every expatriate Bangladeshi. The government will take the necessary initiatives to ensure that expatriates receive the respect they deserve,” he said.

Enamul Haque Enam, Member of Parliament for Chattogram-12 , said the Prime Minister had spent a long time abroad and was therefore particularly sympathetic and committed to addressing the problems and concerns of expatriate Bangladeshis.

He noted that expatriates worked tirelessly to keep the country's economy moving forward by sending remittances. However, he acknowledged that they had not always received the recognition and respect they deserved. He expressed hope that the government would take effective measures to address their concerns and ensure their proper recognition.

Among the other distinguished guests were Dr Mohammad Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Adviser to the BNP Chairperson; Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Kindi, former UAE Minister; Tarek Ahmed, Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE; and Rasheduzzaman, Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai, along with senior officials and prominent personalities from various sectors.

Around 36 Commercially Important Persons (CIPs) living in the UAE were honoured at the event. Distinguished guests, including the former UAE minister, visiting Bangladeshi lawmakers, the Bangladesh Ambassador and the Consul General, presented commemorative crests to the award recipients.

Guests highly praised the overall management, organisation and smooth execution of the event.

The ‘NRB CIP Awards 2026’ recognised successful entrepreneurs and expatriate Bangladeshis who have made significant contributions to the country's economy and enhanced Bangladesh's image abroad. The recognition created a renewed sense of encouragement and inspiration among the Bangladeshi expatriate community.
