No travel pass for Sheikh Hasina: State Minister

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir clarified on Thursday (November 5) that no standard passport or travel pass will be issued to bring back absconding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who faces a death sentence.
Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after seeing off a delegation led by Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the State Minister emphasized that her return from India must take place strictly under the existing bilateral extradition treaty.
"As a convicted death row fugitive, no regular passport or travel pass will be issued to repatriate former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India. She must be brought back from Delhi under the provisions of the extradition treaty in force between the two countries," Humaiun Kobir stated.
Addressing queries regarding the proposed Bangladesh-China-Myanmar tripartite economic corridor, the State Minister noted that Dhaka sees no geopolitical risk in the initiative, adding that its implementation would transform the entire region into a pivotal commercial hub. He expressed Bangladesh's keen interest in joining the regional corridor, while underlining that a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis remains a necessary prerequisite.
Humaiun Kobir expressed optimism that the visit by CPC Minister Liu Haixing would further deepen and energize bilateral and strategic relations between Bangladesh and China in the coming days.
