Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is visiting Khulna and Bagerhat today, Thursday (November 5), to attend several official programs and inaugurate a national sports talent hunt initiative.

The Prime Minister will depart Dhaka by helicopter at 9:00 AM for Mongla, before proceeding to Khulna by road, confirmed Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atiqur Rahman Rumon.

He stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend two scheduled events in Mongla and one in Khulna. Additionally, the Prime Minister will offer prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (R.) in Bagerhat district headquarters before traveling by road from Mongla to Khulna.

In Khulna, the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate "Notun Kuri Sports (Season 2)" at the Khulna District Stadium. Organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the nationwide initiative aims to scout and nurture athletic talent at the grassroots level.

The Prime Minister's visit has sparked enthusiasm among local party leaders, activists, and general residents across Khulna. Comprehensive cleanup drives have been conducted throughout the city to welcome the head of government.

The Khulna District Stadium and surrounding thoroughfares have been decorated with colourful banners and festoons highlighting the "Notun Kuri Sports (Season 2)" launch. Murals and graffiti depicting Khulna's rich heritage, the July mass uprising, portraits of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, as well as artistic representations of the Sundarbans and the Royal Bengal Tiger, have been painted along walls stretching from Shibbari Circle to the main railway station gate.

In line with official directives, political arches, welcoming gates, billboards, and festoons previously put up by political activists were removed, marking a rare instance where a visiting head of government is received without ubiquitous promotional gates and banners across the city. Tight security measures have been deployed throughout Khulna Metropolitan area to ensure safety during the visit.

Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju remarked that the metropolis has been cleaned and beautified ahead of the visit, adding that civic leaders and residents are eagerly waiting to accord a warm welcome to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
