Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road returned to normal after remaining suspended for nearly two and a half hours following clashes between police and protesters in the Jalkuri area of Narayanganj on Tuesday afternoon.
Vehicular movement resumed around 5:30PM on Tuesday (November 3). Earlier, clashes broke out between protesters and police around 4:15PM, prompting law enforcers to use water cannons and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to bring the situation under control.
Abdullah Al Mahmud, superintendent of police of Industrial Police-4, said police had initially tried to defuse the situation through discussions with the protesters. However, he alleged that the protesters, instigated by others, attacked law enforcement personnel. Authorities are questioning those detained and working to identify the instigators.
Earlier in the day, former Narayanganj-2 MP M Nazrul Islam Azad, Deputy Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir, Superintendent of Police Md Habibur Rahman, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashkul Islam Rajib and local BNP leaders visited the area to assess the situation.
Security was also strengthened at key points across the district to prevent further unrest. Police, members of the Special Reserve Battalion (SRB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remained on alert, with additional police deployment at important intersections and strategic locations.
