Dhaka-Ctg highway blocked following death of IIUC student

Students of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway following the death of their fellow while crossing the highway on Tuesday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, Maisha Mushfirat, 21, a second-semester student of the university's Department of English, and two other students were waiting to cross the road when a lorry struck a passenger bus from behind, pushing the bus into the three students. All three sustained injuries; Maisha later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The accident occurred around 9:30AM in front of the university's main gate at Kumira, opposite Dallas Petrol Pump.

Following the incident, agitated students staged a protest march and blocked both the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and the railway line. They obstructed the railway tracks by placing tree trunks across them. Furthermore, a traffic jam spanning approximately 20 kilometers has developed on the highway, causing significant hardship for commuters.

Sitakunda Model Police Station OC Mohinul Islam stated that vehicular movement has been partially disrupted. Discussions with the authorities are currently underway, and it is expected that traffic flow will return to normal soon.
