Gazipur District BNP Secretary and District Council Administrator Dr Chowdhury Ishraq Ahmad Siddiqui has announced that party leaders and activists are on the ground to maintain factory security and smooth production amid ongoing readymade garment (RMG) worker protests.
The BNP leader disclosed the operational measures on Tuesday as garment workers in Gazipur continued demonstrations demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000 alongside other benefits.
Dr Ishraq stated that leaders and activists from Gazipur District BNP, Kaliakair Upazila, Kaliakair Pourashava BNP, and associated organizations are actively working to prevent anarchy across the RMG sector. He confirmed that these monitoring activities will continue throughout the industrial belt.
Emphasizing party directives, Dr Ishraq noted that BNP activists will remain present in the field under instructions from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to ensure export-oriented manufacturing units operate without hindrance. He added that the party supported industrial enterprises previously and will remain alongside factory owners and workers in the future.
Garment workers across various Gazipur hubs have been staging demonstrations over the past few days pressing for wage increases. The protests led to blockades along major thoroughfares including the Dhaka-Tangail highway, resulting in clashes, vandalism, production halts, and public transport disruptions.
Local administrative officials and business leaders consider factory security, peaceful industrial environments, and resolving legitimate labor demands crucial to maintaining economic stability.
