A peaceful environment returned to the Gazipur industrial belt on Tuesday (November 3) morning following days of widespread labor unrest, as garment workers stayed indoors after authorities declared a general holiday across most factories in the region.
Traffic movement along the key Dhaka-Tangail highway—which had been severely disrupted by worker demonstrations and blockades stretching from Chandra to Mouchak—normalized completely by Tuesday morning.
On-spot inspections across Chandra, Palli Bidyut, Sofipur, and Mouchak areas confirmed no signs of street protests, with local and long-distance transport plying freely along the highway.
Local sources indicated that factory managements declared a general holiday to prevent potential unrest and avert further clashes, leading workers to remain at home.
To preserve order and prevent sabotage, local political activists alongside law enforcement personnel maintained a visible presence at strategic points along the highway.
Workers expressed relief at the temporary lull, noting that while wage increments remain essential for coping with living costs, general laborers do not support violence or destruction of industrial property.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam stated that traffic flow remains normal along the Dhaka-Tangail highway and law enforcement personnel are maintaining strict vigilance to ensure miscreants do not infiltrate the workforce to provoke fresh chaos.
