Police have recovered the body of a banned Chhatra League leader from a rented residence in Sreepur, Gazipur.
The body was discovered around 8PM on Monday from a room on the fourth floor of a house owned by Dulal Miah, located in the Rajendrapur area of Rajabari Union in the upazila.
He was the former general secretary of the Rajabari Union unit.
Azahar Hossain, the elder brother of the deceased, stated that Shahin had left home five months ago and had not been in contact with his family. Around 12:30 PM, his friend Alamgir Hossain informed him that Shahin had been murdered. Upon receiving the news, Azahar went to the house and found it locked from the outside. He then contacted the police by calling 999.
Around 8PM, the police arrived at the scene, broke open the lock, and recovered the body on a bed inside.
He added that there were signs of injury on his brother’s neck. It is possible that he was strangled with a piece of thick galvanized iron (GI) wire. The perpetrators then locked the house from the outside and fled.
Sreepur Police Station OC Shahinur Alam stated that the house where the body was found had been locked from the outside. The body has been sent to the morgue at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
