Butcher found dead in rented house toilet

Police recovered the body of a 50-year-old butcher, Rubel, from the toilet of his rented house in Karimpur Trimohoni area of Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat on Monday evening (November 2).

Rubel, son of Lalchan alias Montu of Mulgram area in Kalai municipality, had been living alone in the rented house for around three months. He worked as a butcher, slaughtering cattle and selling meat in Karimpur, Itakhola and Khetlal markets.

According to family and local sources, Rubel was married and had three children. He had been living alone since his divorce and also suffered from heart problems.

His employer, Saheb, said they had tea together at Karimpur market on Sunday evening. Rubel then returned home, but was not seen outside afterwards.

On Monday afternoon, Saheb went to Rubel's house and called him several times but received no response. He later broke open the gate with the help of locals and Rubel's sons, finding his body inside the toilet.

Police recovered the body and took it to the police station. Some drug-use paraphernalia was also found in his bedroom.

Khetlal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muktarul Alam said Rubel might have died of a stroke. The body will be sent to Joypurhat General Hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
