The programme also included the distribution of Bangla QR codes among businesspeople in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Saidpur to make digital transactions easier, safer and more convenient. The initiative was conducted under the slogan, "One Country, One QR — Transactions through Bangla QR".
Addressing the workshop, Deputy Managing Director Zafar Sadek said money laundering and terrorist financing had become major challenges not only for individual countries but also for the global financial system.
He said criminals often used legitimate financial channels to disguise illegally earned money, undermining economic stability, the investment climate, good governance and public confidence in financial institutions.
He stressed that banks had a crucial responsibility to prevent their channels from being used for illegal financial transactions or terrorist financing.
He also warned about the growing use of banking channels for digital hundi, online gaming and betting, online gambling, illegal cryptocurrency transactions and foreign exchange trading, which could facilitate the transfer of money out of the country.
He urged bank officials to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to prevent such activities, stressing the need to strengthen institutional initiatives against money laundering and terrorist financing.
The press release was issued by K M Harunur Rashid, AGM and in-charge of the bank's Public Relations Department, on November 2, 2026.
