A severe food and medicine crisis has gripped Sajek Valley as an indefinite tourist road blockade resumed on Monday morning, cutting off essential supply lines to local residents.
The prolonged transport disruption has severely crippled essential supplies, leaving local inhabitants facing acute shortages of basic food items and vital medical supplies, while locally produced fruits are rotting in fields due to an inability to transport produce out of the area.
Demonstrators resumed the fourth phase of the blockade from 6:00AM on Monday (November 2) after their five-point demand remained unresolved over 12 consecutive days, despite a brief 12-hour relaxation period granted on Sunday (November 1).
The Sajek Karbari Association and the Sajek Gano Odhikar Rakkha Committee led the action, placing tree trunks and burning tires on access roads to block traffic movement throughout the region.
Security concerns have heightened further following recent exchanges of gunfire between rival political factions, JSS and UPDF, in the Kolabunia and Durdurichhara areas over the past two days.
Sajek Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tofazzal Hossain confirmed that protesters obstructed key traffic points with logs, adding that police and law enforcement personnel remain on high alert to maintain control.
