Saudi Arabia has refunded 3,091,243 Saudi Riyals—equivalent to approximately Tk 10.23 crore—to Bangladesh after previously withholding the amount for non-insurance medical expenses of 340 Bangladeshi pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season.
Religious Affairs Minister Qazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad announced the recovery of funds during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday, November 1.
The minister stated that the money would be handed back to the respective Hajj agencies, describing the refund as a significant milestone in safeguarding pilgrims' financial interests and conserving the country's foreign currency reserves. He added that there was no prior precedent of such a refund from Saudi authorities in earlier Hajj seasons.
