Mirpur-10 under police control; Traffic resumes partially

Law enforcement agencies regained control of Mirpur-10 after nearly 40 minutes of clashes with garment workers demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000, allowing limited traffic movement to resume in the area.

However, groups of workers remained scattered across roads in Mirpur-2, Mirpur-11 and Mirpur-14, while law enforcement personnel stayed on alert to prevent further road blockades.

The workers took to the streets on Sunday morning and blocked roads over their demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. Police tried to persuade them to leave the roads until 11AM, but as the protesters refused to withdraw, law enforcers launched an operation around 11:20AM.

Clashes broke out between the two sides when police firing tear gas shells and sound grenades and using water cannons to disperse the protesters. In response, workers pelted police with bricks and stones. The confrontation continued for around 40 minutes, turning the area into a battleground.

After noon, law enforcement agencies regained control of Mirpur-10 as the protesters dispersed and took positions in scattered groups in neighbouring areas.
