Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the popular video game PUBG, with Donald Glover attached to direct, write and star in the project.
Glover will executive produce the series alongside his brother Stephen Glover. Other executive producers include Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, Fam Udeorji of Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee of Krafton's LV3H.
The project follows lengthy negotiations between Netflix and Glover.
Glover is known for his roles in Community and Atlanta, the latter of which he created and starred in. He also worked as a writer, director and executive producer on the series, winning two Emmy Awards for his acting and directing.
Originally titled PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, PUBG was released in 2017 and has since set seven Guinness World Records. South Korean publisher Krafton announced plans to expand the franchise into film and television in 2020.
Krafton's entertainment division, LV3H, is involved in developing and producing projects based on the franchise. An animated PUBG series from Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar was also announced in 2021 and was previously in development at Netflix.
The live-action adaptation joins Netflix's growing list of video game-based projects, which also includes an Assassin's Creed series, a Gears of War film and animated adaptations of Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans.
No release date or production schedule has been announced.
