Observer Online Report
A gunfight between armed members of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) has been continuing for nearly two hours in Sajek, Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati, amid a dispute over territorial dominance.
The exchange of gunfire began around 1:00pm on Saturday (October 31) in the remote hills of the Kalabunia area in Sajek.
According to police sources, the clash erupted following a dispute between the two groups over establishing exclusive control in the area. The prolonged gunfight has triggered widespread panic among local residents. However, no casualties have been reported so far due to the area's remote location.
Officer-in-Charge of Sajek Police Station Tofazzal Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that gunfire had been ongoing between the JSS and UPDF in the remote hilly area of Kalabunia since 1:00pm.
He said immediate access to the area was not possible because of its difficult terrain. However, police and joint security forces were preparing to enter the area to maintain law and order and bring the situation under control.
The police official also said security forces and police were monitoring the situation from a distance, while tension continued to prevail in the area.
