Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has accused the government of deceiving the public and attempting to impose autocratic rule over the nation.
Addressing a roadside rally organized by an 11-party alliance at the southern end of the Padma Bridge on Saturday (October 31) morning, Dr Shafiqur declared that with public support, the opposition would upend all autocratic attempts by the administration.
Thousands of leaders and activists from Shariatpur and Madaripur districts gathered at the Naodoba roundabout on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway starting from 7:00AM, carrying national and party flags to push for their seven-point charter of demands.
The leaders outlined key demands during the rally, including the implementation of the referendum mandate, trial for the July killings, resolution of utility shortages, control of commodity prices, and an end to corruption and extortion.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mamunul Haq also addressed the gathering alongside senior coalition figures.
