A garment worker named Sakib was killed and two others were injured when a septic tank exploded on the ground floor of an under-construction building in Gazipur's Naojor area on Friday morning.
The explosion occurred around 7:15 AM on October 30 in a three-story building where construction was nearly complete.
According to local and fire service sources, two ground-floor rooms built over the septic tank had been rented out to garment workers, including the deceased Sakib.
The septic tank exploded with a loud bang, killing Sakib on the spot and damaging the room's doors and windows. The injured workers were rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. Sakib hailed from Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district.
Bhogra Modern Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Rajib Hossain stated that accumulated gas inside the septic tank likely caused the explosion. He added that the body was recovered and handed over to the police.
Basan Police Station officers and Gazipur Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Sadar Zone) Shoeb Mohammad confirmed that police inspected the scene, sent the injured for treatment, and are investigating the incident while completing legal procedures to hand over the body to the family.
