The Ministry of Science and Technology has clarified statements regarding power generation at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, confirming that Unit-1 has officially entered 'Stage C' of its power start-up rather than full production.
The clarification followed earlier comments by Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahboob Anam indicating that electricity production had begun at the plant's first unit.
Ministry Senior Public Relations Officer Abdullah Al Mamun stated in a press release on Friday, October 30, that the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority granted approval on Thursday, October 29, for the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited to initiate Stage C.
Stage C is a critical phase in the commissioning process where reactor capacity is incrementally raised to test and verify the operational efficiency of primary, secondary, and safety systems, alongside the turbine-generator and control mechanisms.
A key objective of this phase is to successfully synchronize the Unit-1 generator with the national power grid for stable electricity supply, while keeping nuclear safety as the top priority.
