Evercare Hospital Chattogram, the port city's largest hospital, organized a patient forum and an awareness rally today (29 October) to observe World Stroke Day 2026.

Marking this year's theme, “Every Minute Counts,” the hospital has launched the ACT FAST campaign to help people recognize stroke symptoms and ensure that patients receive emergency medical care without delay

Mr. Vinay Kaul, Chief Operating Officer of Evercare Hospital Chattogram, said, “Stroke is a medical emergency in which time can be both a patient's greatest ally and greatest enemy. Bringing a patient to the hospital quickly can improve their chances of recovery, while delays can increase the risks. It is therefore essential to understand the warning signs of stroke and know what action to take. We hope that this patient forum and awareness rally on World Stroke Day will help us make more people aware of the importance of timely intervention.”

Dr. Hassan Shahriar Kabir, Director, Medical Services, Evercare Hospital Chattogram, said, “This year's theme reminds us that every minute matters when it comes to stroke. Delays in recognizing the symptoms can reduce a patient's chances of recovery and even survival. We also call upon all relevant stakeholders to join hands in raising public awareness about stroke and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention.

Dr. Md. Anisul Islam Khan, Senior Consultant & Coordinator, Department of Neurosurgery, Evercare Hospital Chattogram, said, “If symptoms of a stroke appear, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately without delay. Reaching the hospital in time can improve the chances of recovery through treatments such as surgical intervention or thrombolysis. Therefore, raising public awareness about recognizing stroke symptoms and taking prompt action is extremely important.”

Dr. Somen Chowdhury, Consultant & Coordinator, Department of Neurology, Evercare Hospital Chattogram, said, “Globally, one in four people is at risk of having a stroke. Common warning signs include facial drooping, weakness or numbness in the arms or legs, and slurred speech. During a stroke, brain cells begin to die every minute. Receiving timely medical attention can significantly improve a patient’s chances of survival and recovery. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms early and seeking immediate medical care.”

The patient forum was attended by Mr. Vinay Kaul, Chief Operating Officer, Evercare Hospital Chattogram; Dr. Hassan Shahriar Kabir, Director, Medical Services, Evercare Hospital Chattogram; Dr. Md Anisul Islam Khan, Senior Consultant & Coordinator, Neurosurgery; Aminur Rahman (Azad), Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery; Dr. Somen Chowdhury, Consultant & Coordinator, Neurology and Dr. Mohammad Anwarul Azim Chowdhury, Attending Consultant – Neurology.

Following the patient forum, an awareness rally was organized with the participation of guests, doctors, medical staff, patients' attendants and local community members, reinforcing the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms and seeking emergency treatment without delay.
