Police have detained an acting headteacher and an office assistant for allegedly helping a teacher accused of raping a fourth-grade student at a primary school in Abhaynagar, Jashore.

They were detained from Nawapara Bazar on Wednesday night. The accused assistant teacher remains absconding.

According to police, the incident took place on October 26 when the girl went to the school toilet. The teacher allegedly entered and raped her, later threatening to kill her if she disclosed the incident.

The girl informed her mother the following day after refusing to attend school. Her father later filed a case.

Police said the acting headteacher was informed about the incident but allegedly helped the accused teacher flee with the assistance of the office assistant instead of taking action.

The two detainees were sent to court on Thursday. Police are working to arrest the main accused.
