BNP-nominated candidate Mirza Faisal Amin has been unofficially declared the winner of the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, contesting with the party’s sheaf of paddy symbol.

District Returning Officer and District Election Officer Kamrul Islam announced the unofficial result on Thursday night (October 29).

Voting in the by-election was held from 8AM to 4PM on Thursday.

A total of 21 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 2,272 police personnel and 2,405 Ansar members were deployed to maintain security during the election. Election inquiry committee members, judicial magistrates and executive magistrates were also on duty.

A total of 177 domestic and local observers, along with four foreign observers, were scheduled to monitor the electoral process.

Five candidates contested the by-election: Mirza Faisal Amin, president of the district BNP and brother of President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Delawar Hossain of Jamaat-e-Islami; Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Abdul Alim Nizami of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan; and Husain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress.
