The Land Acquisition Branch of the Rangamati District Administration has detained an individual named Suman Tanchangya on charges of submitting a forged succession certificate to claim compensation for land acquisition. He has since been handed over to the Rangamati Kotwali Police Station. The administration is now taking steps to initiate a formal legal case against him.
According to the Land Acquisition Branch of the District Administration on Thursday (October 29), Suman Tanchangya had applied for land acquisition compensation, claiming to be an heir of his late uncle, Subhash Tanchangya. It is alleged that he concealed the names of the actual legal heirs, submitted a forged succession certificate, and provided false information.
Relevant sources stated that while scrutinizing the application and the submitted documents, Land Acquisition Officer Syed Abu Huraira Ador discovered evidence of forgery in the succession certificate. Consequently, Suman Tanchangya was detained and handed over to the police for using a forged document and providing false information to obtain compensation.
District administration sources further indicated that the accused is charged with violating Section 4(1)(f) of the Land Crime Prevention and Redressal Act, 2023. A formal legal case is currently being initiated against him.
Sources familiar with the matter noted that the verification of relevant documents is being treated with high priority to prevent attempts at irregularities, such as the use of forged paperwork, during the distribution of land acquisition compensation.
