Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) blocked the China Friendship Conference Centre intersection in the capital for around 20 minutes on Thursday, disrupting traffic as they continued their third day of protests demanding the recovery of the old trade fairground in Agargaon.
The students marched out of their campus and passed by the former trade fairground before gathering at the intersection, where they staged a road blockade.
After about 20 minutes, they resumed their march, proceeding along the Bijoy Sarani–Mirpur Road before gathering in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) Complex, where they chanted slogans.
Among their slogans were, “We have shed blood, and we will shed more,” “We will build the country through research, with Bangladesh first,” and “You keep telling us to leave Dhaka-- is Dhaka your ancestral property?”
The protesters later returned to the university campus and continued their demonstrations in front of the administrative building.
On Tuesday, October 27, the students gave the fair organisers an ultimatum to relocate the fair from the ground. As the organisers failed to remove it within the stipulated time, agitated students vandalised the fair’s entrance gate on Wednesday.
The students said their movement would continue until the former trade fairground was returned to the university.
