Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the Thakurgaon-1 by-election is being given the same priority as the national parliamentary election.
He made the remarks after inspecting the law and order coordination cell at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.
He said police, local administration, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other agencies had been deployed to ensure a peaceful and credible election. The process is also being closely monitored from Dhaka.
Regarding complaints from the 11-party alliance, the CEC said the issues had been addressed. Complaints over electoral code violations were also being handled promptly.
He expressed hope that the election would help end past electoral violence and promote a festive voting culture.
